BYO School Music Program and Private Lesson Policy
The Billings Youth Orchestra believes its success depends upon the overall music education of our members. We recognize and value the vital role played by music educators, both private and public, in the training of our musicians. Therefore, the Billings Youth Orchestra requires each of its members to participate in his/her school music program when possible. If a student feels unable to participate in his/her school program for any reason, a meeting could be coordinated among the student and his/her parent(s)/guardian(s), the school counselor, the music educator, and a representative of BYO to discuss the student’s situation. Although not required, private lessons are encouraged in addition to participation in a school orchestra program. Youth orchestras, school music programs and private teachers all share the common goal of training the next generation of musicians.
