About the Billings Youth Orchestra

"Now the premier orchestral experience for talented young musicians throughout the Billings area"

Hello everyone and welcome to the 13th season of the Billings Youth Orchestra! This year brings exciting opportunites for our students—a side-by-side performance with the Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale and workshops with prestigous guest artists! Since its establishment in 2006, the Billings Youth Orchestra is the premier orchestral experience for talented young musicians in the Billings area. The program is open, by audition, to all students in surrounding counties, from preschool to college, including home-schooled students and students from outlying rural schools.

We hope to see you on stage with us soon!

Best,

Sam Carl
Executive Director

Mission

Since its inception, BYO has expanded rapidly, creating a comprehensive program of orchestral education. With four orchestras, the BYO provides music education for a diverse group of students from kindergarten to college. As BYO members improve their skills, they advance from one group to the next. At the highest level, we strive to prepare students for membership in college and professional orchestras, such as the Billings Symphony Orchestra and Chorale.

The Billings Youth Orchestra provides the opportunity for individual growth of musically talented youth through training and performance of the highest quality. The BYO endeavors to develop pride and confidence in young people from all cultural backgrounds through their individual musical achievement, and to instill values through musical experiences. The BYO aspires to perpetuate support for professional classical music by enriching local culture and developing future musicians for major orchestras.

Vision

The Billings Youth Orchestra has become a magnet for the best young musicians in our region. Considering the talent and dedication our students and intstructors, and the enthusiastic support of our community, the BYO has become a source of civic pride for Billings, and a core cultural institution for Montana.
